Tools of Our Trade
We invest in the latest software tools to perform our work. Each
package has been selected to maximize client value. We retain one
or more specialists for each package, so that we can offer our clients
someone who uses the software on a daily basis and has the most
current release. A brief description of each of our key software
tools follows.
SOLIDWORKS
SolidWorks is the world's best selling mechanical
design automation (CAD) software. With 3-D solid modeling capability,
it can create parts compatible with key fabrication methods, including
machining, molding, casting and sheet metal forming. It builds these
parts up into assemblies using powerful part "mating"
relationships, allowing the user to verify the fit and function
of complex assemblies at the design stage. SolidWorks is a fully
parametric system, which mean that a part's shape and dimensions
can be easily changed at any time with a few key strokes. The system
integrates seamlessly with popular Computer Aided Machining (CAM)
packages, enabling "prototyping without prints". For production
documentation, it also creates printed fabrication drawings which
maintain their parametric relationships to the parent model files.

formZ
formZ's ability to combine solid and surface modeling has
made it a favorite in multiple design fields and industries that
include architecture, product design, the entertainment industry,
as well as illustrators, exhibit display designers, furniture manufacturers,
forensic animators, web designers, desktop publishers, and many
more.

Pro/ENGINEER
Parametric Technology Corporation's suite of Pro/ENGINEER solutions
allows for the creation of virtual 3D parts and assemblies of almost
limitless complexity and accuracy , along with fully ANSI/ISO compliant
manufacturing drawings. The parts, assemblies and drawings are fully
associative and parametric. The parametric integration flows further
into a host of Parametric Technology's and third party design, analysis,
manufacturing, and rendering products. These including Pro/MECHANICA,
COSMOS, Pro/NC, TI/Tol, Pro/PDM, Pro/INTRALINK.

AUTOCAD
For those who prefer their drawing output in AutoCAD® format
we have AutoCAD 2000. This software is a customizable 2D/3D design
and drafting environment and toolset. Architects, engineers, drafters,
and design-related professionals use it to create, view, manage,
plot and output, share, and reuse accurate, information-rich drawings.

ZEMAX
Zemax is the most popular window-based optical ray tracing software
package on the market. Using ray-tracing methods based on classical
Newtonian geometrical optics, it is suitable for the design of a
wide variety of optical systems, including lenses, cameras, endoscopes,
telescopes, microscopes, projectors and many more. It creates optical
"prescriptions" which describe how the lenses, prisms
and other components are formed. It performs tolerance analysis,
determining the effect of individual and combined tolerances on
system performance. It produces final fabrication drawings which
contain all component dimensions and tolerances from which optical
fabricators work. Zemax files can be exported directly into SolidWorks,
speeding opto-mechanical design and system integration.

TracePro
TracePro® is a revolutionary program for modeling the performance
of optical systems and illumination systems. It is the first optical
ray tracing software to be based on the industry standard ACIS®
solid modeling kernel from Spatial Technology, Inc. TracePro is
used for illumination analysis, stray light analysis, non-imaging
analysis, radiometric analysis, or any application where you must
accurately determine distributions and intensities of light. TracePro
features a graphical user interface with familiar Windows menus,
dialog boxes, and toolbars, and databases of material properties
and surface properties. Because TracePro is based on ACIS, it shares
the same file format with other ACIS-based applications, allowing
smooth two-way data file sharing with many CAD programs. Data files
can be exchanged with other CAD programs using optional STEP and
IGES translators.

ASAP OPTICAL DESIGN SOFTWARE
ASAP is the leading software for non-sequential ray tracing for
illumination design. With its integrated bulb library and direct
importing of data for radiant sources, the system can design projectors,
concentrators, light pipes, faceted reflectors, fiberoptics devices,
and light source assemblies. It analyzes stray light and accounts
for surface scattering. The software integrates with Zemax and SolidWorks,
resulting in fast system integration. ASAP is widely used to design
appliances, automotive illumination, medical systems, theatrical
lighting, and room lighting.

MOLDFLOW
Moldflow delivers the "faster, better, cheaper" molding
solutions to our clients. It is a process wide plastics simulation
package that allows the designer to determine the moldability of
a part early in the design process. Fully integrated with SolidWorks,
designers can assign one of 2500 polymer materials to their part,
specify molding temperatures and pressures, and in seconds determine
how well the mold will fill. The designers can then immediately
modify their part and rerun the molding simulation. The software
provides a "confidence of fill" rating, allowing the designer
to insure manufacturability before the mold is started. Savings
in time and money can be enormous!

COSMOS/Works
COSMOS/Works offers powerful, easy to use design analysis that
is seamlessly integrated with SolidWorks. Powered by the fastest
solvers in the industry, COSMOS/Works delivers high-end analysis
features at a fraction of the cost of traditional FEA programs.
From structural and thermal analyses to assemblies with gap, contact
and friction, COSMOS/Works can meet even the most complex design
analysis challenges with ease. Got a complicated design with over
a million degrees of freedom? Need to optimize an assembly with
gaps, friction and multiple moving parts? COSMOS/Works can handle
these problems and more.
By utilizing revolutionary new accuracy tools, COSMOS/Works calculates
results accurate enough to offer true shape optimization of your
designs. COSMOS/Works allows you to conduct virtual testing and
optimization throughout the entire design cycle, thereby minimizing
the need for expensive, time-consuming analysis and prototypes.
When it comes to accurate stress results, numerous benchmark studies
have shown that no mainstream analysis program compares to COSMOS/Works.
Only COSMOS/Works includes AccuStress®, a breakthrough tool
that enables accurate stress calculations. AccuStress® features
a new transitional meshing technique. By creating a finer mesh in
those areas that need it the most, AccuStress® delivers the
accurate stress results that you need to perform true design optimization.
With optimization and simulation features imbedded within SolidWorks,
COSMOS/Works allows you to revise designs quickly and accurately
without constantly redefining the analysis.

ORCAD
OrCAD is an electronics design software system with modules covering
the entire electronics development process. OrCAD starts with electronic
component selection. Its Component Information System consists of
a resident library of over 30,000 components stocked by hundreds
of manufacturers, eliminating the need to maintain printed catalog
libraries. In addition, OrCAD's online Internet Component Assistant
provides access to the company's database of over half a million
integrated circuits. Partnerships with major component distributors
facilitate the ordering of components online.
As components are selected, designs are created complete with part
numbers, footprints, and other data needed for production. OrCAD's
Capture module performs circuit design, creating schematics, block
diagrams, and bills of material. The Pspice module simulates the
performance of analog and digital designs, often eliminating the
need for brassboards. Finally, the Layout module is used to design
the printed circuit boards (PCBs) on which the components are mounted.
Layout's output files can be provided to PCB fabricators, who make
prototypes with the electronic data. Within hours, prototypes can
be available which closely match the final PCBs to be used in production.
These windows-based OrCAD tools allow the fastest possible design,
simulation, prototyping, and manufacture of electronic circuits.
